I fell in love with Maffra, 240km southeast of Melbourne and it took us 3hrs of driving to get here. Instantly it was love at first sight when we reached the quite peaceful town. Hello from all the cows, hills...nice and beautiful fams. The people are so friendly and i just simply love it. Now i know why Fatimah,my colleague who is here with me too, love Maffra. She used to stay here in 2003 and she showed us her old house and visited her friend's place,Kak Rapiah in Sale, a 20 mins drive from Maffra. A very nice lady who cooked rendang and fish curry for us..ha..i missed home food actually. Shes very bubbly and her warmth really made our short lunch visit a memorable one. I love her place, very nice.
In the evening we went to Farah's ex-nanny's house. Farah calls her.. Neynah (Coral)Nice lady who prepared us simple meal with beautiful bread roll! Coral loves to collect dolls and antiques, and i was gven the honour to play on her antique sentimental value-piano. Like what Fatimah said, this is what you get to see in a typical Australian house. Beautiful setting, nicely done bedroom.. and of coz, her big lemon tree at the backyard. Her grandchildren are friendly and they really made me feel so at home.
In Maffra, we visited Maffra Primary School. Friendly staff, the Principal is so sweet. She brought us to tour around the school. I got to view the Art lesson on Aboriginal Art. Very interesting lesson and cute students. Well, I even get to teach Bahasa to the preps class. Taught them to say, 'saya kacak' and 'saya lawa'. My the kids love it! Adorable students and love their accent when they said.. "satu, dua, tiga"..like seh-tuh, dew-wey, tee-geh.. heheeh
Anyway... im back in the city now. I already missed Maffra and the farms..the nice view.. and here i am in our apt,19th storey, surrounded by all the skyscrapers... myyy.. how can i not missed the single storey house, the swing, cows, lotsa trees, coral's house..the company, kak rap's bubbliness... i just simply love that place..and driving in Maffra is simply a breeze.. nice scenery..and perhaps its our rental car, ford falcon. brilliant! Well, got to thank Fatimah for suggesting to visit Maffra..away from hustle and bustle of the city life! It was out of the beaten track that most would not experience unless you know some locals here... not like an ordinary tourist!! Thanks Fatimah!! Aku sayang kau lah!!!
